The Delaware State Hornets surged to a commanding 90-69 victory over the Howard Bison on Saturday, fueled by Martaz Robinson’s standout 26-point performance. This Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) clash at Dover’s Memorial Hall showcased Delaware State’s offensive firepower, extending their season record to 13-10 (5-3 MEAC) while Howard fell to 10-15 overall.
Robinson’s 26-point dominance was complemented by nine rebounds and pinpoint accuracy, shooting 70% from the field. Teammate Robert Smith added 23 points, including four 3-pointers, while Kaseem Watson’s flawless free-throw shooting (6-6) rounded out the Hornets’ trio of double-digit scorers.
“This win cements our momentum in the MEAC title race,”said head coach Stan Waterman postgame.
Howard’s Blake Harper led the Bison with 18 points, but their defense struggled to contain Delaware State’s relentless drives. Key contributors included:
- Cameron Shockley-Okeke: 17 points
- Marcus Dockery: 12 points, 4 assists
The Hornets’ 52% field goal efficiency overshadowed Howard’s 41%, with Delaware State commanding a 15-point lead by halftime. This victory propels the Hornets into a three-way tie for second place in the MEAC standings.
Upcoming games on Monday will test both teams’ conference aspirations: Delaware State visits Norfolk State, while Howard hosts Maryland-Eastern Shore. With MEAC Tournament seeding on the line, Robinson’s all-around prowess positions the Hornets as a rising threat in March’s postseason.
