How to Stream the Sundance Film Festival from Home This Week

The Sundance Film Festival, renowned for showcasing groundbreaking cinema, is now accessible online, allowing audiences nationwide to enjoy a diverse range of films from the comfort of their home. This innovative approach, initially born out of necessity during the COVID-19 pandemic, has become a cherished part of the festival's offerings.

Festival director Eugene Hernandez remarked on the importance of accessibility: "Offering online viewing options means that people everywhere can partake in these cinematic experiences, enriching both audiences and artists alike. It's about bringing discovery to a global stage."

Starting this Thursday, over half of the films that debuted last week will be available on the festival's user-friendly online platform. These films, which include crowd-pleasers and award contenders, are a click away for anyone residing within the United States. If you're curious about the technical requirements, the Sundance Film Festival website provides comprehensive instructions for streaming via computers and TVs.

Viewers simply need to select the 'Watch Now' button for their desired film, granting them a five-hour window to enjoy the feature from start to finish. It's important to note, however, that due to licensing restrictions, these films are not available for international streaming.

Among the main attractions available are breakout films such as Twinless, documentaries on Marlee Matlin, Sally Ride, and Selena Quintanilla, and impactful Ukrainian documentaries like 2000 Meters to Andriivka and Mr. Nobody Against Putin. Not to be missed are the compelling Love, Brooklyn, the insightful Heightened Scrutiny, and the gripping The Perfect Neighbor, which creatively utilizes real police bodycam footage.

Some films have already secured theatrical releases and will not be available on the streaming platform. This includes titles like A24's Opus and the psychological thriller If I Had Legs I'd Kick You by Rose Byrne, both slated for a big screen debut. Similarly, Focus Features will release The Ballad of Wallis Island, starring Carey Mulligan, in theaters this March. The premieres section films, such as Bill Condon’s much-anticipated Kiss of the Spider Woman remake, won’t be part of the online lineup.

The festival runs from January 30 through February 2. For those eager to immerse themselves in this cinematic adventure, ticket prices vary from $35 for a single film to $800 for unlimited access, with revenues supporting the Sundance Institute's artist initiatives.
