Baseball fans will witness a historic moment as iconic broadcaster Joe Buck returns to the national MLB spotlight for ESPN’s opening day clash between the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees on March 27. This marks Buck’s first nationally televised baseball game since his storied 24-year run as Fox Sports’ lead announcer ended in 2021.

Buck will be joined in the booth by YES Network analyst Joe Girardi and Brewers commentator Bill Schroeder for the 3 p.m. EST showdown at Yankee Stadium.

“Opening Day has always been a signature day on the sports calendar,”
Buck stated, emphasizing the event’s significance. He credited his co-analysts as “great friends and better baseball minds”, humorously adding he’ll be “along for the ride.”

Since joining ESPN in 2022 for Monday Night Football, Buck’s only baseball work included a regional Cardinals-Cubs broadcast in 2023. His last national MLB telecast was the Braves’ 2021 World Series-clinching Game 6 victory over the Astros.

ESPN’s opening day doubleheader also features:

  • The defending champion Dodgers hosting the Tigers at 7 p.m. EST
  • Karl Ravech, David Cone, and Buster Olney calling the nightcap

With 28 World Series broadcasts under his belt, Buck’s return injects star power into ESPN’s 2024 MLB coverage launch. The Brewers-Yankees matchup highlights opening day’s slate, pairing last year’s NL Central contenders against the AL East’s perennial powerhouse.
