Kansas State women’s basketball delivered a commanding 90-60 win over rival Kansas, fueled by Sernea Sundell’s school-record 15 assists and Taryn Sides’ 16-point performance. The Wildcats (25-4, 13-3 Big 12) celebrated Senior Day with All-American Ayoka Lee making a brief return after an eight-game injury absence.
Sundell became the third player in program history to surpass 200 assists in a season, adding nine points and six rebounds. Kansas State shot 53% overall, including 13 three-pointers, while holding the Jayhawks to 35% inside the arc. “Our ball movement was exceptional tonight,” Sundell said postgame, emphasizing the team’s 28 assists on 34 baskets.
Key contributions came from across the roster:
- Temira Poindexter: 14 points
- Gisela Sanchez & Zyanna Walker: 12 points each
- Kennedy Taylor: 10 points
The Wildcats established early dominance with a 26-12 first-quarter lead, later sealed by Sides’ buzzer-beating three-pointer before halftime. Kansas’ Elle Evans scored 15 points, but the Jayhawks (15-12, 6-11) couldn’t overcome K-State’s +10 rebounding margin and 57% first-half shooting.
With this win, Kansas State women’s basketball extends its home winning streak to 17 games. The team faces No. 19 Baylor next, while Kansas travels to BYU. This victory solidifies K-State’s position as a top contender in both the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments.
