Marvel fans can now explore the untold creation stories of iconic superheroes through Marvel Age of Comics, a new book series from Bloomsbury launching this fall. Announced Wednesday, the collaboration combines Marvel’s digital archives with Bloomsbury’s signature blend of academic rigor and storytelling flair.

Three titles debut the series: Doctor Strange by Stuart Moore, The Mighty Avengers of the 1970s by Paul Cornell, and Daredevil by Chris Ryall. Each book fuses historical context with personal narratives, featuring never-before-compiled artwork from Marvel’s vaults.

We’re merging reverence for Marvel’s legacy with fresh insights, said Sven Larsen, Marvel’s VP of licensed publishing.

Inspired by Bloomsbury’s acclaimed 33 1/3 music series, this project targets both lifelong fans and new audiences. Key features include:

  • Deep dives into 1960s-1980s comic eras
  • Analysis of cultural shifts influencing characters
  • Behind-the-scenes creator interviews

Haaris Naqvi, Bloomsbury’s publishing director, recounted childhood memories of reading Marvel comics: This series reconnects readers with that sense of wonder.Early access announcements suggest upcoming volumes will spotlight Black Panther and X-Men.
