Carter Welling delivered a clutch 17-point performance to secure Utah Valley’s 70-68 road victory over Southern Utah in a Western Athletic Conference (WAC) thriller Saturday night. The Wolverines (18-7, 10-1 WAC) maintained their conference dominance behind Welling’s all-around effort: 9 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks.
Tanner Toolson matched Welling’s 17 points, sinking 3 three-pointers, while Dominick Nelson added 10 critical free throws. Southern Utah’s Dominique Ford exploded for a game-high 28 points, but the Thunderbirds (11-15, 3-9) fell short despite a late rally.
“This win cements Utah Valley’s grip on the WAC standings,” said a team spokesperson postgame. “Welling’s defensive hustle was the difference-maker.”
