In a significant food safety alert, Wegmans Food Markets has announced the recall of its frozen breaded chicken nuggets due to possible contamination with bone fragments. This move affects consumers in eight states and the District of Columbia as the store aims to ensure customer safety.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) emphasizes the potential risk by issuing a public health alert, urging customers not to consume the affected products. However, a formal recall notice was bypassed as the product is no longer available for purchase.
The alert applies specifically to 46-ounce plastic packages labeled “Wegmans Family Pack Fully Cooked Breaded Chicken Breast with Rib Meat.” Consumers are advised to check for a “best if used by” date of August 26, 2025. This detail is prominently displayed on the backside of the packaging, adjacent to the barcode in the lower right-hand corner. All affected products were produced on August 26, 2024.
This particular batch was exclusively manufactured for Wegmans Food Markets and distributed across several regions, including Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
The FSIS became aware of the issue following multiple consumer complaints regarding the presence of bone fragments in the nuggets. While no injuries have been confirmed from ingesting these products, the FSIS remains vigilant as these items may still reside in household freezers.
Consumers possessing these nuggets are advised to either dispose of them or return them to the point of purchase for a complete refund. Wegmans is committed to supporting its customers through this process and encourages anyone with concerns or queries to reach out to their customer service line at 1-855-934-3663, available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm, and on weekends from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Wegmans' proactive recall highlights the importance of food safety and transparency in addressing potential health risks. It is crucial for consumers to remain informed and act accordingly to avoid possible hazards associated with contaminated foods.
